The Combat Class

Prerequisite: None
Frequency: Once a quarter, usually on Saturday mornings
Location: IAW-HQ, Bruchsal

Combat training is the raw material of WingChun practice and develops the capacity for flexibility in the applications of Lat Sao. It helps core understanding and free implementation of the Lat Sao Programs. Furthermore, it promotes rapid perception and is therefore the best possible training for decision speed. This is a prerequisite for progress in WingChun and facilitates understanding of the Programs of the Upper Student Levels and Technician Grades.

Combat Programs are part of the comprehensive examination for the Upper Student Levels (starting from the 9th Student Level) and the Technician Grades. All exams are rendered by the respective Academy Leaders, during which an impeccable mastery of the Combat Programs is expected.

Combat Classes are held every second month in the IAW Headquarters in Bruchsal.

For Combat Classes, and for that matter all the tests from 9 Student Level on, protective equipment is necessary. These include shin guards, knee and elbow pads, and groin protection for men. (Fist protectors are more obstructive and not generally required for WingChun instruction).

The Special Class

Minimum Graduation: 7th Student Level
Frequency: Once a month, usually on the 2nd (or 1st) Friday
Location: IAW-HQ, Bruchsal

The theme of the Special Class is the repetition of the Basic Programs, such as the deepening of the 1st Section and its application in the higher Levels. Since the Programs are discussed in great detail, dissected down to the smallest movement, and then trained, there is a minimum Graduation prerequisite for the resulting experience.

The Special Class teaches the combination of understanding and application of the Basic Programs and stages up to the Pre-Primary Level. Through this very special teaching none of the Programs remain unclear. In theory and practice, all aspects of each Section are discussed and practiced.

Especially for Assistants and Instructors, this monthly class is an appropriate opportunity to focus on teaching the Student Level Programs. Otherwise, it offers the Advanced Students a refresher which completes and improves previously learned material through an intensive look at the details of its motor movement.

The Technician Class

Prerequisite: Pre-Primary Level
Frequency: Once a month, usually on the 4th (or 3rd) Friday
Location: IAW-HQ, Bruchsal

The goal of this class is intensive practice of the 2nd to 7th Sections. This includes knowledge of the meaning of each Section, up to the full Program of the second Technician Grade. Not to mention the possibilities of applying these Sections, which are learned thoroughly to help understanding of each movement in detail. Only in this way can the logical connection of all parts be made into a perfectly blended whole.

The first seven Sections include the most interesting movement patterns at all. Without the exact knowledge defined in the first seven Sections, it is not possible for students of WingChun to gain insight into the highest teachings of the system. Only with a real understanding of the first seven Sections, and thus the first two Forms of the system, is the actual purpose of the Biu Jee and Mok Yan Jang, often described as secret and prestigious, clearly grasped.

By constant repetition, the student learns in the shortest time and with ease to flow almost unthinkingly through the movement situations.

The WingChun Seminar

Prerequisite: None
Frequency: Once a month, usually on a Saturday or Sunday
Location: In one of the IAW Academies or in the IAW Headquarters. Exact dates are listed on the "Events" page.

The Seminar is intended for intensive training of current Programs. At Seminars, relevant movements are ingrained and Section Programs are practiced.

Also during Seminars, Students can (with permission by their respective Academy Leaders) test until the 11th Student level. The tests for the Pre-Primary Level as well as the Technician Grades are specially scheduled in the HQ.

The Seminar should be viewed as training. WingChun Students should regularly, about every 2-3 months, participate in Seminars, in order not to miss the latest developments. Our art is never static and I myself am always ready to adjust my teaching developments for the current students to my latest views and insights.
